The thing that affected me the most about ID theft is the extremes that people will go to if they obtain your identity. The crooks will not only go to lengths to hide what they are buying, they will also buy as much as they can before getting caught. The thieves may rack up thousands of dollars of things bought in just a couple of hours.
To protect myself I will be careful with all of my personal items and documents. I will scrutinize all of my monthly bills and shred all personal documents no longer needed. I will cancel all accounts if I see that accounts are being tampered with or something is out of the ordinary.
